This collaboration bore fruit on April 12, 1989 when this manning company, now officially known as Ventis Maritime Corporation, formally opened at Suite 2098, V.V Soliven Bldg., EDSA, Greenhills, San Juan, Metro Manila.

Ventis was conferred an ISO certification on September 28, 1999; after months of preparation for a Quality Management System that will ensure Principals' satisfaction. That it would work towards a continued and greater satisfaction of the Principals was proven on October 19, 2000 when it passed its first surveillance audit without a single nonconformity.

Ventis received another award from POEA on January 31, 2006, the "Top Performer Award", making it three times now that Ventis has been honored with this citation by POEA.

The number of vessels assigned to Ventis then started to increase back in 2007. By 2011, it is planned that the total number will double the total number of vessels manned in 2007. This will mean hiring more seafarers and ensuring that their capability and skills meet the requirements of "K" Line.

On April 17, 2007, a new President of Ventis was enthusiastically chosen by the Board of Directors in a meeting that was held in Tokyo. Jose Ramon R. Garcia, an entrepreneurial visionary was chosen to lead Ventis to far greater heights.

Nine months after, on January 26, 2008, Ventis moved to her third business address. This new address is at the ground floor of the imposing "K" Line Building, a seven-story modern edifice that sits along Coral Way Drive in the bustling Central Business Park 1 of Pasay City, along Diosdado Macapagal Avenue.

This move to the new address bodes will for Ventis, for it reflects the vision of both the Management and Staff towards becoming the number one manning agent in the Philippines.

Today, with 42 employees, two Principals listed under POEA, 60 manned vessels and over a thousand seamen in its roster, Ventis continues to face the challenge of the future.

Tips on Avoiding Fake Or Illegal Agencies

After working for so many years, you decided to use your money for greener pasture. Aside from that you borrowed a big amount of money from your relatives and friends. Plus you sold you gadgets and jewels at a very cheap price just to complete the placement fee. Then you learned that all those money turned into stone! The recruitment agency you applied and trusted is illegal. And your money was gone..

So how do you know that your agency is illegal? Beware of the following sign of illegal recruitment:

1. First of all go online and check if the agency is in good standing with the POEA - go to Google and Google the name of the agency - you will see if it is in good standing ( or just go to the poea website)

2. Check if their POEA license is up to date - if it is not -do not deal with them

3. Cross check if there is a POEA Job order with the POEA - all job orders must go through the POEA first before it is allowed to be advertised in the agency - if it isn't with the Philippine Overseas agency - then the job does not exist!

4. Beware of up-front placement fees or fly now pay later deals where the Agency will lend you cash and ask you to pay a monthly fee plus interest -usually they will ask for your passport for "insurance" - you will end up paying a huge amount to get it back

Sadly there are many tales of woe involving OFW's who are scammed out of thier savings by unscrupulous people - however there are many agencies that are legit.

Illegal Recruitment

If you want your application to be a smooth sailing and not to be scammed, avoid Illegal Recruitment by following the steps below:

1. Do not apply at recruitment agencies not licensed by POEA.
2. Do not deal with licensed agencies without job orders, check it in POEA Website or call POEA.
3. Do not deal with any person who is not an authorized representative of a licensed agency.
4. Do not transact business outside the registered address of the agency. If recruitment is conducted in the province, check if the agency has a provincial recruitment authority.
5. Do not pay more than the allowed placement fee. It should be equivalent to one month salary, exclusive of documentation and processing costs.
6. Do not pay any placement fee unless you have a valid employment contract and an official receipt, avoid paying in advance, only after visa and contract arrives.
7. Do not be enticed by ads or brochures requiring you to reply to a Post Office (P.O.) Box, and to enclose payment for processing of papers.
8. Do not deal with training centers and travel agencies, which promise overseas employment, they do not deploy worker.
9. Do not accept a tourist visa when you should have a working visa.
10. Do not deal with fixers, they are the people who offers service on processing your passport.
